Twisting
Director’s Take
Twisting holds a special place in my heart because it was the start of my creative journey with Venna. I remember sitting in the studio in London, listening to the Malik project for the first time, completely immersed in the sound. Sound inspires me and when Venna played Twisting, the entire world of the film revealed itself to me almost instantly. The sound felt warm, vibrant and lived-in. It was rapid and still at the same time. I kept seeing movement. Getting to know Venna shaped the world just as much as the music did. He’s someone who moves through the world so naturally, always traveling, always floating between places and cultures. I wanted the film to feel like him. During my time in London, I walked through the city with the song in my headphones, watching people move, interact and exist. Those small human details shaped the visual language of the film. When we traveled to Portugal and Morocco, I fully surrendered to the environments around me, the color, the rhythm, the chaos and the quiet. I recorded everything as I felt it, letting the music guide me. Everything you see in the film came from that place: sound, movement, culture, curiosity and the freedom and trust Venna gave me to create.
